"Crimson & Tide" - Handmade Copper Wrapped Hummingbird Swing
The Sunrise is our largest hummingbird swing; a bold, generous arc of hand-twisted copper wire strung with hand-selected glass and crystal beads that catch the light beautifully at any hour. The perch is made from grapevine harvested from a neighbor's backyard, wrapped and secured with copper wire by hand.
Every detail is made to last outdoors and to draw the eye of a passing hummingbird. Each Sunrise swing is entirely one of a kind. No two are exactly alike in bead arrangement or grapevine character - what you receive is the exact piece shown.

Hanging & Placement
Hang within a few feet of your nectar feeder - ours is about 4 feet away
Doesn't need to be in direct view of the feeder; around a corner works once they discover it
A covered porch or roof ledge is ideal - shelter keeps the swing moving gently
Hummingbirds prefer a clear sightline so they can watch their surroundings while resting
5–8 feet off the ground works best
A note from the maker: The Sunrise collection is named for the time of day my eldest child was born and as it happens, one of the times our hummingbird loves most to come and rest. The product photos in this listing were taken on my own back porch, where the same hummingbird visits this swing every day. He found it on his own and claimed it as his. There's nothing quite like watching a hummingbird settle in on something you made.
Care
Copper weathers naturally over time, developing a warm patina
To preserve the bright finish, bring indoors during heavy rain or winter
A light coat of clear jewelry sealant can help maintain the copper color
Grapevine perch may show natural variation in color and texture - this is part of its character
If you have a request of a color and size please reach out. I am happy to make custom orders.
Hummingbird Swing FAQ
Do hummingbirds really use swings? YES! I couldn't believe it either. Hummingbirds will often use a nearby perch to rest, watch over their feeder, and guard their favorite feeding area. Every bird is different, so it may take a little time for them to discover it, but once they do, many return to the same perch again and again.
Where should I hang my hummingbird swing? Hang your swing within a few feet of a nectar feeder, flower bed, or area where hummingbirds already visit. Ours hangs about 4 feet from our feeder on our back porch.
Does the swing need to be directly beside the feeder? No. It does not have to be in direct view of the feeder. Around a porch corner, under a roof ledge, or near a favorite feeding area can still work once the hummingbird discovers it.
How high should I hang it? A good placement is about 5–8 feet off the ground. This keeps the swing visible and gives hummingbirds a comfortable resting spot with a clear view of their surroundings. Eye level.
Do hummingbirds prefer sun or shade? They often like a spot with a clear sightline where they can watch what is happening around them. A covered porch, roof ledge, or lightly sheltered area is ideal because it protects the swing from harsh weather while still allowing it to move gently in the breeze.
How long does it take for a hummingbird to find it? It depends on your yard and the birds visiting it. Some may discover it quickly, while others may take days or weeks. Hanging it near a feeder or flowers they already use gives it the best chance.
Will the copper change color? Yes. Copper naturally weathers over time and may develop a warm patina. This is part of the natural character of copper. If you prefer to keep the brighter copper finish, store the swing indoors during rough weather or apply a light coat of clear jewelry sealant. I bring mine inside for the Winter months.
How do I care for the swing? Gently wipe the copper and beads with a soft dry cloth if needed. Avoid harsh cleaners, scrubbing pads, or soaking the grapevine perch. Bring the swing inside during winter or severe weather to help preserve it. I also recommend watching for spider webs - give those a brush once in a while.
Why does the grapevine perch look different from piece to piece? Each perch is made from real grapevine harvested from a local neighbor’s backyard. Natural variation in color, shape, texture, and bark is expected and is part of what makes each swing one of a kind.
What is the difference between the Sunrise, Aurora, and Dusk Collections? Sunrise is our largest swing, made with a bold, generous copper arc. Aurora is our medium swing, graceful and balanced with soft iridescent detail. Dusk is our smallest swing, delicate and cozy with quieter tones and a lighter presence.
